How to Autofill Workday Applications (and What to Type Yourself)

The short answer

To autofill a Workday application, start with Workday's own options: choose Autofill with Resume on a single-column resume with standard headings, or Use My Last Application when you apply to the same employer again. For other fields, a browser extension such as Simplify Copilot can fill basics across employers. Always check work history, dates and dropdowns by hand, and answer sponsorship, salary and self-ID questions yourself.

If you are applying at volume, you already know the feeling: a new myworkdayjobs.com page, a new account to create, a resume upload, and then twenty minutes retyping the job history Workday just scrambled. Workday is common among big employers (Jobscan's 2026 report says over 40% of Fortune 500 companies use it), so you cannot avoid it. You can make it hurt less.

Why doesn't browser autofill work on Workday?

Workday forms are built from custom components rather than standard form fields, so Chrome, Safari and Firefox autofill often miss them, especially the dropdowns. The markup also varies between employers and versions, which is why even dedicated tools sometimes leave a dropdown for you to click.

The new account for every company is not a bug either. Each employer runs its own Workday tenant, and Candidate Home accounts are generally tied to that employer, so your profile does not carry over. The practical fix is a password manager. CISA advises a different strong password for each account, so skip the tip you may see elsewhere about reusing one password on every Workday portal.

What are Workday's built-in autofill options?

Many Workday career sites offer three ways to start: Autofill with Resume, Apply Manually, and Use My Last Application. Some also offer Apply with LinkedIn, which one career coach calls the fastest and most accurate option when it is available.

• Autofill with Resume parses your file into the My Experience page. The State of Oregon's own applicant guide tells candidates to review that information for accuracy and fix it by hand.
• Use My Last Application appears when you sign in to an employer's Candidate Home and apply again, and reuses your previous application. In our view it is an underrated shortcut if you are applying to several roles at one company.
• Apply Manually can be faster than cleaning up a bad parse, particularly for long work histories.

How should I format my resume so Workday parses it?

Use a single column with standard headings like Work Experience, Education and Skills. Two-column layouts tend to parse out of order because sidebar text gets mixed into your experience. Avoid tables, text boxes, logos and text inside images, and never upload a scanned PDF. If a text PDF parses badly, several guides suggest trying a DOCX version instead.

Even then, treat the parse as a draft. People on Blind and Reddit report fields landing in the wrong place, and work history entries disappearing after clicking Back or after pasting descriptions with special characters. Paste plain text, finish each page before moving on, and avoid the Back button once you have entered roles.

Are Workday autofill extensions worth it?

For people applying across many employers, often yes. Simplify Copilot fills Workday, Greenhouse, Lever and other systems, and says its autofill is free with paid premium extras. The Workday Autofill Assistant says your profile, resumes and answers stay on your device. JobWizard, SpeedyApply and NeuraClick are other options, and Autofill-Jobs on GitHub is open source. Before installing any of them, look at what the listing says it collects and where data is stored. These extensions need access to Workday pages across employers, and your resume is personal data. We think tools that promise unlimited bulk submissions carry more risk than assisted autofill that you review and submit yourself.

Which fields should you always fill by hand?

• Work authorization and sponsorship questions, since a wrong answer can screen you out.
• Salary expectations and relocation.
• Voluntary disclosures, including the CC-305 disability self-identification form, which the Department of Labor describes as voluntary and confidential.
• The certification checkbox confirming your application is accurate.
